Paddy Power Review and Ratings - Real customer experiences

#8 of 15 Sports Betting

Despite being a relatively new bookmaker on the block, Paddy Power has rapidly grown to become Ireland's largest and most successful provider. It was founded by the merger of three Irish bookmakers in 1988, who placed emphasis on innovation and customer experience. Since then, Paddy Power has developed 212 shops in Ireland and 107 in the UK.

With its recent merge with Betfair, Paddy Power has continued to grow and is now known as the third largest online bookmaker. In 2015, the company announced revenue of around £1 billion, a 24% increase on the previous year and as a result the Paddy Power workforce has been expanded. Paddy Power Sports betting, Paddy Power casino, Paddy Power poker, Paddy Power games and Paddy Power bingo are all successful platforms that punters keep returning to.

Paddy Power is licensed and regulated by the British Gambling Commission for UK players and the Malta Gaming Authority for international players. You may recognise the name from their controversial advertising campaigns, but our Paddy Power review shows that there is more to this bookie than you might think. We think they are up there with bet365 as one of the Top Sports betting operators.

Arriving at a Paddy Power review rating

The world of online sports betting is a confusing place, and sometimes you need to be able to quickly look at a bookmaker and see what its pros and cons are. There are many Paddy Power reviews out there, but in our Paddy Power sports betting reviews we consider eight different categories. This helps us to come to a conclusion and give a Paddy Power rating. The bookmaker will be tested across categories such as website and usability, the odds offered, any promotions and, of course, security. It is important to know that your data is well protected when you gamble! You can add your own evaluations, leaving Paddy Power ratings to help out other customers.

Website & Usability

01 Website & Usability

All green, all of the time

Paddy Power is known for its iconic green and the colourful display is exciting for the eye. The layout is clear and precise which makes navigating the website prompt and simple. This can be essential when time is of the essence with a particular market, such as for in-play betting.

Intuitive layout

The Paddy Power login feature is easily accessed in the top left corner and when logged in important aspects of your account, i.e. your account details, payment types and bet history are clearly visible in the same area under 'My Account'. Your categories of choice are tabbed at the top, each having sub-categories within them.

Odds are displayed in a choice of two forms with Paddy Power. Fractional is the most widely used and the website is preset to this. However the choice of decimal odds is provided and this format has become more popular in recent years, particularly after the rise of Betfair Exchange. This can easily be altered in the 'My Account' then 'Website Preferences' section of the website. Once set, the odds layout is clear and colourful which helps within the in-play markets – the odds will flash blue when a selection shortens and red when a selection drifts.

The only downfall of our Paddy Power review in this category is the website’s loading time. When opening a sub-category containing a large amount of data, the website can often stutter as the mouse is scrolled. This can counteract its efficient design at times - that’s why we haven’t given a perfect Paddy Power rating for this category.

Betting Offers

02 Betting Offers

Variety of sports and more

There are few that can rival Paddy Power in terms of variety within sports betting markets. This is vital in satisfying its ever-growing amount of customers. Some punters may be market specific, whereas as others will require a range of availability to fulfil their needs. Sports markets at Paddy Power include; American Football. Athletics, Baseball, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Darts, Football, Golf, Hockey, Horse racing, Netball, Rugby, Snooker, Tennis, Volleyball, and Wrestling. There are also a number of less obvious sports included - fishing anyone? Paddy Power sports betting reviews are impressed with around 40 sports on offer.

You can just about bet on anything and there are many markets other than sports - why not wager on current affairs? The point this bookmaker is trying to get across? Why bet with anyone else when you have everything you require to satisfy your betting needs right here with Paddy Power. In addition to this, Paddy Power also offer a cash-out option for ongoing bets, which is now of essential importance for gamblers.

In-play and live streaming

Paddy Power offers a great selection of in-play bets, as you would expect from such a popular bookmaker. The cash-out options also help make Paddy Power one of the top rated bookmakers in the business. There are several live streaming options at Paddy Power. The focus is predominantly on football and horse racing but sometimes you can watch more niche sports such as handball too!

03 Bonus

£30 in free bets is something to sign up for

In order to entice customers to their website, incentives are used as a reward for choosing the site to place bets. Like the majority of bookmakers, Paddy Power provides a welcome bonus to new customers registering for the first time. At the moment the Paddy Power bonus is £30 in free bets when you bet £10. This is a pretty standard offer on the market right now, but that isn’t to say it’s not worth signing up for.

The Paddy Power sign-up offer is only triggered once the qualifying bet of £10 is placed at odds of ½ (1.5) or above. Once activated 3 x £10 free bet tokens will be visible in both the 'My Account' section and in the betslip when a selection is highlighted. The free bet stake is not returned in any winnings, e.g. if £30 of free bets are placed on a 3/1 horse, the returns will be £90 and not £120. You have 30 days to take advantage of this new customer offer.

Returning customers won't miss out

There are also usually promotions on offer for existing customers, in the form of deals on specific events. For example, Paddy Power offer your money back as a free bet (up to £25) if your horse finishes in second place to the SP favourite. This is offered on one meeting per day, and is certainly a good deal!

Odds & Limits

04 Odds & Limits

Fair odds and reasonable limits

Paddy Power offers fair odds across the board - you won’t need to complain here! Although others may be a better bet in certain cases, the consistency of the Paddy Power offer should be enough to keep customers coming back.
There is also the popular Best Odds Guarantee on British and Irish racing, which means that if you bet on a horse, which then has a better SP, any winnings will be paid out at the higher rate. This is a popular deal at UK bookmakers and it makes sense that Paddy Power want to be in on it too!

variable limits that make sense

The minimum stake is usually £0.10, which is low enough to please the most casual of bettors. Remember that to watch the horse racing live you must place a minimum bet of £1 on the race. The limits at Paddy Power vary depending on the sport you are betting on, the event and the specific bet. For example, the maximum winnings for football are £1,000,000 on winners in major leagues, but as low as £10,000 for more obscure matches and markets. The limits for tennis range from £1,000 to £200,000. Paddy Power reviews suggest that this is reasonable, and we think that most punters should be able to bet comfortably within the limits.

Customer Service

05 Customer Service

Efficient live chat and knowledgeable staff

One thing that is paramount to this bookmaker is the way in which it comes across to its customers.

Should you require assistance there is an in depth Paddy Power FAQ section in the help centre located in a tab on the right side of the website. If this does not resolve your issue there are three further ways to contact Paddy Power; live chat, email or by phone. Although a little difficult to find (perhaps this is done by design) the live chat is an excellent feature to the website. A chat member will be assigned to you in, on average, less than a minute and can generally solve your query promptly and efficiently. Likewise the telephone customer service is far from frustrating. Wait times are limited and members of staff will do their utmost to help you. The final port of call for contacting this bookmaker is probably the least desirable of the three as response times can vary from 24-48 hours. By this time queries have often been resolved or the customer has lost interest in a resolution. On the bright side, all means of contact are available 24/7. If you have had a different experience, leave a Paddy Power review to help others make the right choice.

06 Payments

Easy to use and comprehensive payment system

Paddy Power can be proud of its easy to use payment system. Unlike other bookmakers, they make it a stress free environment with a pop up live chat option available should any issues arise. The various deposit options they provide are; Debit/Credit cards, Paypal, Neteller, Skrill, Western Union, Bank Transfer, Entropay. Therefore, whatever your situation, Paddy Power can cater for you.

Once the deposit reaches your account it is immediately transferred to your account balance ready for you to place your bets. It is worth noting that no fee is charged upon the majority of deposits and withdrawals and your account balance will not suffer as a consequence. In regards to payments, the minimum deposit across all methods is £5.00. Most deposit methods are instant and usually require around 1-3 working days to be withdrawn. Should you fall at the other end of the spectrum, the maximum deposit is £99,000 via a valid debit/credit card and maximum withdrawal is £30,000.

Paypal is on offer

Paypal is rapidly becoming the preferred deposit and withdrawal method with online bookmakers because of its 0% fees and lack of processing time. Withdrawing with Paypal here will see your funds reach your account within a few hours, a major selling point considering it can take up to a few days for your average Debit/Credit cards.

Security and Licensing

07 Security and Licensing

You're in safe hands with Paddy Power

One thing which is guaranteed with a major bookmaker like Paddy Power is its security for customers. Depositing your money online can be daunting at the best of times so it is a major positive when you can trust the merchant - that is why this category is so important in our Paddy Power rating. Being licensed by the British Gambling Commission is important because they have rules in place to ensure that your funds are held in a separate place, should anything go wrong. In addition to this, Paddy Power offers us Visa Verified and Mastercard secure when we make deposits with our respective cards. Paddy Power reviews its security regularly to make sure that it is up to scratch.

No underage gambling slipping through

Also, it is refreshing to know that this bookmaker takes age verification extremely seriously and will carry out checks to ensure you are who you say you are and that you’re old enough to gamble. Should these checks fail for whatever reason, Paddy Power will then request that you provide further information to verify your identity and age. Again, this is made easy and can be instantly resolved by entering either your driving license number or your passport number. Alternatively, you can send a picture of your identification and download it to their secure file where a member of their security team will take a look and notify you via email.

Paddy Power reviews show the company will do everything it can to help its customers. It has numerous methods of gambling control, including; daily deposit limits, time out features, reality checks and self exclusion. All methods are designed to protect the customer from losing control of their gambling.

Mobile Application

08 Mobile Application

One of the original mobile betting apps

Paddy Power is the proud owner of the very first mobile betting app and this has given them an advantage over their rival bookmakers. Paddy Power has divided its app offering, to give one app for each arm of its business. The sports betting app is certainly up to scratch. The main benefit of an app is to emulate the desktop site as closely as possible and this one does just that. There are very few things that you cannot do on the Paddy Power app and the whole experience is a smooth one. Whether you're just looking to keep an eye on your matches while you're out or want to stream the racing, the app can support your needs. The great thing about this technology is that there is so much you can do with little fuss. Our Paddy Power review found that the layout is simple and maintains their iconic green look. The data loads quickly and if you needed to deposit and place a bet quickly, you could do so no slower than if you were using the desktop. Overall we were impressed with the quality of the Paddy Power app.
