Coral Sports Experiences: Real customer ratings and reviews

#5 of 15 Sports Betting

Joe Coral started providing bookmaking services in 1926, before the British government legalised and regulated the industry in 1960. As the third-largest player in the retail bookmaking industry, Coral have a 20% market share. Part of the Gala Coral group, its main centres of operation are the two major regulated gambling markets, the UK and Italy. British operations are based out of Gibraltar.

At first glance, our Coral Review of their gambling offerings give us the impression of having some of the newest and top rated products in the sector. Their area of expertise comes in sports betting and past Coral sports betting reviews have shown Coral to be one of the market leaders in “bet-in play” (better known as live sports betting on some sites). One of the benefits of using Coral is its network of more than 1,800 retail betting shops across the UK.

Coral is certified by GamCare, and to achieve this, they had to integrate several practices into the business model. These include providing information about responsible gambling, consulting and supporting the GamCare organisation, facilitating the self-exclusion of its user base, and using user verification systems.

Website & Usability

01 Website & Usability

A busy website but top marks for customisation

Our Coral Review of the website and its usability shows that MyCoral is the epitome of a personalised experience. As you create your slate of events, you can add them to your MyCoral tab; that way you can go straight to your preferred sports and cut out the things that don’t interest you. The Quick Links tab, which is right above MyCoral, is another help to guide you towards the most popular events of the moment. While the main website may not be as attractive as Bwin for example, it certainly satisfies the functional requirements. The site’s colours are a loud combination of blue and green, and a lot is crammed onto the main page.

Coral’s bounce rate is pretty high, at 45%, which suggests that the site itself isn’t drawing the punters in. The main page is pretty busy and this might be off-putting for a first time user. Whilst we like that you can personalise your experience once you’ve signed up, the initial impressions could be improved.

02 Betting Offers

Plenty of sports to keep you happy at Coral

Our Coral review, in terms of the betting offers, shows that its sport selection is expansive. You have 24 sports (with the Olympics included) at your fingertips, with lots of divisions available within sports. You’ll be able to bet on both Rugby League and Rugby Union, and the usual suspects of the best European football leagues. There are also more obscure sports like Gaelic football and snooker. Here’s the rest of what they have to offer: darts, greyhounds, boxing, cricket, American and Australian football, basketball, volleyball, virtual sports, horse racing, pool, handball, Formula 1, motorsports, UFC/MMA, and ice hockey.

In terms of in-play, the Coral ratings are very high. You can customise your bet in play tab with your events (just like in MyCoral) and divvy up the bet in play by what’s going on at the moment and what will be happening later online. If you’re on mobile, you’ll be able to watch live horse and greyhound racing too!

03 Bonus

A tempting free bet offer for new customers

Coral’s new customer Bet £5/Get £20 in Free Bets is quite simple to use. No promotional code is required to sign up. To be able to satisfy Coral’s rules, you first must open an account. Once you register, you do the following: place your first £5 Win or £5 Each-way bet at odds of 1.5 (which are the equivalent of ½ fractional odds), you’ll get 4 £5 bets totalling up to £20.

Our Coral reviews of the bonus and its terms have to mention the numerous restrictions associated with the bonus. First of all, in terms of payment methods, Moneybookers, Paysafe, Neteller, and Skrill deposits aren’t valid for the offer. Football Jackpot, multiple, and other combination bets don’t qualify either. Despite the caveats, including not being among the best bonuses out there, it’s good way to capitalise on the bet-in play area and expand your strategy. The smaller bets offered with the bonus give you the tools to implement smart betting strategies, resulting in you spreading around the odds. If you’d like more details, be sure to check out our detailed review of the Coral bonus and our best gambling bonuses to see how the Coral rating stacks up against the competition!

Offers for returning customers too

Existing customers don’t have to miss out at Coral, with various promotions always on offer. These range from football jackpots to a free £5 bet every week that you stake £25. The Coral VIP club allows you to earn points and take advantage of special offers too.

Odds & Limits

04 Odds & Limits

Not the best odds on offer, but deals to be found

Coral’s average profit margin is 5.8%, which positions it higher than most top bookies like Bet365, and William Hill. Coral sports betting reviews tend to agree that the odds on offer are of good quality, although they aren’t the best available. There are some good offers to be found however, such as the popular Best Odds Guaranteed on British and Irish horseracing.

The minimum bet depends on the sport or event; but stakes could be as little as 1p. Pay attention to maximum pay-out limits because because there’s no point making a bet you can’t cash out! The maximum winning limit depends on the sport and the event. The Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A (and most premier football leagues) have a £1 million maximum win, which is the same for horse races in the UK and Ireland that are covered on Coral TV. Many of the niche sports like handball at volleyball have much lower maximums at £10,000. If you have a look at the help section under Online Sports Rules number 3, you can see the whole list. There’s also no cash-out on bet-in play options.

Coral is helping you set your own limits too

The MyAccount section has your full balance and online history at your disposal along with lots of tools in the Responsible Gaming tab. Your Shop Connect and Telebet activity also shows up in your online account and so you can track your gaming across all of the Coral channels. You have two active tools, the online Daily Budget Calculator and Time and Money Diary, that let you get a grasp on your total spend over the course of the week. You can thus analyse trends of your weekly spending factors.

If you want to not spend too much time, the Gameplay Reminders are your ally to show you how long you dedicate to the sportsbooks. It’s also easy to set up a Time Out period should you need or want to self-exclude from all of Coral. When you want to come back, you can then make a request to be back in the fold. And if the move should be permanent, they can do that too.

Customer Service

05 Customer Service

Coral reviews say there is room for improvement

Coral’s Customer Service has some room for improvement. There are fewer channels for contact than at other providers as it is mainly dominated by the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) tab at the bottom of the site or through the dedicated phone line. The live chat is not immediately visible, which could be improved. In order to access the Customer service team you have to click on the ‘Contact Us’ tab at the top right of the screen. You will then be directed to a screen where you select from pull-down menus which options apply to you. Coral then suggest FAQ answers, and if you don’t find them helpful you will, at last, be directed to the different ways to contact them: live chat, phone or email.

Coral reviews suggest that the bookie should add a Skype line or a dedicated WhatsApp or Viber number to improve their response times. Other competitors in the industry like Bet365 and Bwin have live group chat and Skype options, putting Coral at a disadvantage.

Payments

06 Payments

The payment methods at Coral are a little limited. You can pay with Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, Skrill, Maestro, Neteller, Prepaid Card, Paysafe, and Skrill i-Tap. Coral Connect is a value-added compensation for the lack of variety of payment methods however. Coral Connect is ideal for those weary of having bank account information tied to the account: you can top up in cash in your nearest Coral shop and then you can use it all over Coral. It’s valid in the shop, online, on your mobile, and over the phone. It won’t be in your bank statement (which is a plus for some). There are two tiers to the Coral Connect count, in-shop and online, adding to the sheer amount of choice.

All deposits to Coral are instant and have no charge (although if your credit card provider sees the transaction as a cash one they may charge accordingly). The minimum deposit is £5 across most methods, with the exception of PayPal where you must deposit a minimum of £10. Withdrawals are relatively simple at Coral and you can withdraw from a minimum of £5, which our Coral rating thinks is pretty good! E-wallet withdrawals are processed within 24 hours, whilst bank transfers and card transactions may take up to 5 days. Note that if you deposited by paysafe care you’ll have to choose a new withdrawal method. Coral Connect withdrawals to cash are (obviously) instant.

Security and Licensing

icon

07 Security and Licensing

Full marks in this area

Coral reviews of the security and licensing measures are overall very positive. Coral has worked to offer a secure experience. Its Norton SSL Certificate and GamCare certification are a big part of this. To become GamCare certified, Coral had to integrate the GamCare Player Protection Codes of Practice into their offering. As a GamCare member, you know that you can play responsibly and the numerous links to GambleAware.co.uk show that it’s a constant force. Besides GamCare, Coral is certified by the gambling authorities in the UK and Gibraltar.

As Coral is committed to responsible gambling this includes not permitting underage play on their site. They will verify the age of all new users electronically to make sure that minors are protected.

Mobile Application

icon

08 Mobile Application

Exciting apps for phone and tablet

Coral has plenty of presence on mobile to keep you satisfied. The best part is that sports and casino are combined on the same native mobile app. The Coral Mobile app, available for iOS, Android, and Blackberry, lets users access thousands of bet-in play options, equally becoming of the top bet-in play experience available online or in their retail betting shops. Besides that, if you fancy horse racing, you’ll have daily livestreaming on races in both the UK and Ireland that you can watch and access on the app too. The app has exclusive daily enhanced prices, giving you extra incentive to play on the app instead of anywhere else. As for all the money management matters, you’ll be able to access all the features of your Coral account any time. This means you can make deposits and withdrawals from the comfort of your smartphone. You can also review your account history.

In addition to the Coral Mobile app for smartphones, there’s a special native app for the iPad. The design is especially made for the iPad and is, and as Coral says, the ideal companion for watching sport on TV. The iPad app has got the in-depth form information and live scoreboards for all your football needs. It will keep you up to date with the progress of every match, ensuring you won’t be without all the facts you need to make smart in-play bets. For horseracing, the iPad app also is a great option with even more added features. You’ll have an extensive overview of the racecourse along with the weather to accompany each racecard. Besides that, the streaming is full screen!

Other apps available, but not for everyone

To round out the suite of mobile apps, Coral Radio, with live commentary for horse racing, football, cricket, as well as football scores and sports news can be downloaded for iOS and Android. This is joined by the Coral Live Casino and Poker apps. Unfortunately for Android users is these Live Casino and Poker apps are currently only available for iOS, although we hope that that might change in the near future.
